Another dismal day for Spartak Moscow turned out the last straw for their management, as they sacked coach Unai Emery following a 5-1 demolition by their city rivals Dynamo in a Russian League match.

After a 3-0 defeat by Barcelona that extinguished their Champions League hopes, Spartak Moscow aimed to bounce back to their winning ways against cross city-rivals Dinamo. The game was a disaster for Unai Emery’s side.

Only 15 minutes in, Aleksandr Kokorin's free kick took a vicious deflection off defender Marek Suchy, leaving Spartak keeper Andriy Dikan confused.

Three minutes later, Balazs Dzsudzsak broke free down the right and crossed to Ecuadorian midfielder Christian Noboa, who double his team’s lead.

Things were only beginning for the hosts: Just before the break, Kokorin made a run from inside his own half to score Dynamo's third goal.

Second half substitute Igor Semshov increased Dynamo's lead to 5-0 in same counter-attacking vein.

Artem Dzyuba managed to put Spartak on the scoresheet with an effort deep into stoppage time, but it was too little too late.

Minutes after the game, Spartak general manager Valery Karpin – who lead the red-and-whites to silver medals last year as a head coach – announced that management had decided to give him his marching orders. An interim coach is expected to be announced Monday.

Emery, most famous for his previous work at Valencia, helmed Spartak Moscow in June 2012. He ultimately failed to meet the club’s boss’s expectations, losing four of five Champions League group games so far, being knocked out of the Russian Cup and falling to the middle ranks of the Russian Premier League.
