Champions League winners Chelsea have reached the Club World Cup final beating CONCACAF champion Monterrey 3-1.

Juan Mata put the Blues in front early into the game sending a perfect shot into the near corner of the net.

Fernando Torres made it two in the first minute of the second half when he took a pass from Eden Hazard and hit a left-footed shot that deflected in off a Monterrey defender.

And two minutes later, Mata's cross was tipped in by Monterrey defender Darvin Chavez for an own goal that made it 3-0.

A consolation goal by Aldo De Nigris deep into injury time was all the Mexicans could manage on the day.

“It was a good game for us,''
Chelsea coach Rafael Benitez said. “We had good tempo, good play and a lot of possibilities for us. I am pleased with the performance of our team.”

The Spanish manager had high praise for Torres, who scored his fifth goal in three games under Benitez, with whom he successfully worked at Liverpool.

“He's doing well. He is much sharper,'' Benitez said. “I hope it will be more of the same in the future.''

The Mexican side coach blamed the poor beginning of the second half for the loss.

“We regret that we lost the way we did,''
Monterrey coach Victor Vuctich said. “There was a short time where we lost our concentration.”

Sunday’s final will see Chelsea take on Copa Libertadores champs Corinthians, which edged African champs Al-Ahly 1-0 in the other semi-final on Wednesday.

Europe has won the last five finals, while Manchester United is the only English club to have won it – in 1999 and 2008.
