Kvyat honored as Russia top driver in 2012

Young racing talent, Daniil Kvyat, has been named the Russian driver of the year by the country’s automobile federation.

Kvyat finished second in the Renault World Series, losing out on the title in the final race.

The 18-year-old, who is a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, won seven rounds during the season.

Nikita Sitnikov was honored as the hopeful of the year after winning the Viking Trophy, which is a karting event for the top drivers from Scandinavia, the Baltic States and Russia.  

Boris Rotenberg was awarded for his contribution to the development of the country’s motorsports.

The banker supports Russian racers, competing in big European series like FIA GT3 Championships and 24 Hours of Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the opening of Russia’s maiden world class track, the Moscow Raceway, was labeled the event of the year.

The circuit has already a hosted a number of big events, including rounds of the Renault World Series and FIA GT.

Russia’s only representative in Formula 1, Vitaly Petrov of the Caterham team was left without an award this year.
