President Boris Tadic of Serbia has been released from hospital after undergoing an operation on an Achilles tendon.

The president’s office says Tadic checked out of the Belgrade military hospital on Wednesday afternoon and returned to work.

Finnish orthopedic surgeon Sakari Orava, who performed a successful surgery on David Beckham’s torn Achilles tendon in March, led the team of doctors who operated on Tadic last week.

Tadic, who is 52, tore his tendon while playing basketball earlier this month.

Orava also has operated on other international sports stars, including runners Frank Fredericks, Merlene Ottey and Haile Gebreselassie.
