Twitter greeting: Pope followed by 500,000 welcomed by Israeli President

Benedict XVI who inaugurated his own Twitter account on Monday has already got almost 500,000 followers and received a personal greeting from the Israeli President Shimon Peres.

On Tuesday Peres wrote on his twitter page: "Your holiness, welcome to Twitter. Our relations with the Vatican are at their best, and can form a basis to further peace everywhere."

While the Pope has not yet posted on his new page, the tweeting community is already discussing the new user @pontifix. While some are really enthusiastic about reading what the Pope will have to say, others are already expressing skepticism.
