Spartak’s General Director, Valery Karpin, will take over the responsibilities as the Moscow team’s caretaker coach until the end of the year after firing Spaniard Unai Emery.

Any further changes in the staff are expected in the end of December and will depend on Spartak’s results in the remaining matches.

The Red-and-Whites are to take on Zenit Saint Petersburg and Rubin Kazan in the Russian Premier League as well as Scottish side Celtic in the Champions League before the end of the year.

Spartak parted ways with Emery, following a 5-1 humiliation at the hands of city rivals Dynamo on Sunday.

The Spanish coach has lost his job after less than half a year in charge as the club currently sit 7th in the home league having crashed out of the Russian Cup and the Champions League.

Karpin has already been Spartak’s caretaker coach back in 2008, and stayed in charge of the team for nearly five years after that.

The 43-year-old quit the post after the end of the 2011/12 season when the Muscovites finished in second spot.

Nothing but the champions’ title was expected from Emery at Spartak, but former Valencia manager failed to fulfill the high expectations.
