Tarasenko has NHL dream debut

Russia and St. Louis Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for January, the league’s official website reports.

The 21 year old outshined all other rookies, including fellow Russian Nail Yakupov of the Edmonton Oilers, having netted five goals and claiming four assists in seven games.

The Russian made a dream NHL debut on the opening night of the 2012-13 regular season claiming two in his team’s 6-0 thrashing the Detroit Red Wings on January 19.

Two days later he notched three more points (one goal and two assists) in his next game against the Nashville Predators repeating the franchise’s record belonging to Wayne Babych, who also earned five points in his first two NHL contests in 1978. He went on to close the month with a four-game point streak

The former SKA St. Petersburg forward was the Blues' second choice and 16th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft.
